The One Who Owns the Glory

Let me tell you something that will change how you see everything—your work, your family, even the temptations that come your way. The glory you’re chasing, the success you’re working for, the influence you’re building—it all belongs to someone. And if you don’t know who that someone is, you’ll spend your life chasing shadows.

I’ve seen it too many times. People climb the ladder, only to find it was leaning against the wrong wall. They build empires, only to realize the foundation was borrowed. They gain the whole world, but lose their souls in the process. Why? Because they didn’t know the owner of the glory.

The Temptation That Reveals the Truth

Jesus faced this exact test. After forty days in the wilderness, hungry and alone, the devil came to Him with an offer: "All the kingdoms of the world—their power, their authority, their glory—I’ll give it to you. Just worship me." (Luke 4:5-7)

Think about that. Satan wasn’t offering Jesus some small thing. He was offering the habitable world—everything where people live, work, and rule. The best of human achievement: wealth, influence, control. And he made it sound spectacular. "All their magnificence, their excellence, their preeminence, their dignity and grace." Who wouldn’t be tempted?

But Jesus saw through it. He didn’t argue about the kingdoms. He didn’t debate the power. He went straight to the heart of the matter: "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve." (Luke 4:8)

Here’s the truth Satan doesn’t want you to see: He doesn’t own the glory. He’s just a squatter in a house he didn’t build. The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. (Psalm 24:1) The heavens declare His glory. (Psalm 19:1) The power, the authority, the splendor—it all belongs to God. Satan can only offer you a counterfeit, a cheap imitation of what God already owns.

And here’s the kicker: What Satan offers is always smaller than what God has for you. He showed Jesus the habitable world—a tiny fraction of the universe God holds in His hands. He offers you a corner of the market, a slice of influence, a moment of fame. But God offers you eternity. A kingdom that never fades. A glory that never dims.

The Three Things You Need to Know About God’s Glory

So what does this mean for you and me? Let me break it down into three truths that will reshape how you live:

1. God is the source of all glory.

   • The devil didn’t create the kingdoms he offered Jesus. He didn’t speak the stars into existence. He didn’t design the human mind that invents, creates, and builds. Only God does that.
   • When you see brilliance in science, art, or business, it’s a reflection of God’s creativity—because He made us in His image. (Genesis 1:27) Every good idea, every breakthrough, every act of beauty starts with Him.
   • That’s why Jesus taught us to pray, "For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory." (Matthew 6:13) Not ours. Not Satan’s. God’s.

2. Satan’s offers are always a downgrade.

   • He’ll dangle success in front of you—money, fame, control—but it’s always a bait-and-switch. The moment you take it, you realize it’s hollow. It doesn’t satisfy. It doesn’t last.
   • Think about it: How many people do you know who’ve achieved "success" only to feel empty? How many celebrities, politicians, or business leaders have crashed because they built their lives on something that wasn’t God’s glory?
   • Jesus said, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36) That’s not just a warning—it’s a math problem. The equation doesn’t add up.

3. You carry God’s glory inside you.

   • Jesus didn’t just resist Satan’s offer—He showed us how. He leaned on Scripture. He worshipped God alone. And He walked in the power of the Holy Spirit.
   • You have that same Spirit living in you. (1 Corinthians 6:19) That means you have access to God’s creativity, His wisdom, His strength. You don’t have to settle for Satan’s leftovers.
   • The same God who spoke galaxies into existence lives in you. That’s why you can dream bigger, love deeper, and create things that last.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

This isn’t just theology. It’s practical. Here’s how it plays out in your everyday:

• At work: When you’re tempted to cut corners for a promotion, remember—God owns the glory. Your integrity is worth more than a title. Work like you’re working for Him, not for man. (Colossians 3:23)
• In your family: When you’re exhausted and tempted to check out, remember—God’s glory is in your home. Your presence matters more than your productivity. Love your spouse, raise your kids, honor your parents like it’s your worship to God.
• In your purpose: When you’re unsure what to do next, ask: "Is this leading me toward God’s glory, or away from it?" If it’s not aligned with His kingdom, it’s not worth your time.

"The enemy will bring a kingdom to you that is not the kingdom. He’ll bring power to you that is not the power. But there is authentic power—God’s power—and it’s already yours."

The Choice You Face Every Day

Here’s the question you have to answer: Who are you going to worship?

Satan’s offer is always on the table. He’ll whisper: "Take the shortcut. Chase the money. Build your own kingdom." But it’s a trap. It’s a counterfeit. It’s a downgrade.

God’s offer is better. It’s bigger. It’s eternal. But it requires something of you: worship. Not just on Sundays. Not just in your quiet time. In your decisions, your relationships, your work. Every day.

So here’s your assignment this week:

1. Declare it. Every morning, say out loud: "Yours is the kingdom. Yours is the power. Yours is the glory." Let it sink into your bones.
2. Test it. Before you make a big decision, ask: "Does this align with God’s glory, or am I chasing a counterfeit?"
3. Live it. Do one thing today that reflects God’s glory—serve someone, create something, speak truth, love fiercely.
