The Throne Is the Target

I’ve been teaching on spiritual warfare for weeks now, and I keep coming back to one truth: the real battle isn’t about you. It’s about the throne. The moment you begin to represent heaven’s government—where God’s power, glory, and kingdom rule—you become a threat to hell. And that’s when the fight starts.

This isn’t just theory. It’s the reason your prayer life feels like a battleground. It’s why distractions come when you try to pray, why your mind wanders, why you’d rather scroll than kneel. The enemy isn’t wasting his limited resources on people who aren’t dangerous to his kingdom. If you’re under attack, it’s because you’re pressing into something that matters—something that threatens the darkness.

So how do we fight? Not with more willpower, not with better strategies, but by understanding one simple truth: the throne is reached through prayer. And if you want to live from that throne, you have to live in prayer.

The Battle Isn’t About You—It’s About the Throne

Let’s start here: Satan’s obsession has always been the throne. From the beginning, his rebellion was about seizing power, glory, and authority (Isaiah 14:12-14). When Jesus ascended and sat down at the right hand of God, the conflict shifted. Now, the battle isn’t just for territory—it’s for who governs. And when you, as a believer, begin to access that throne through prayer, you become a target.

Paul puts it plainly in Ephesians 6:12: "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world." Notice he doesn’t say the struggle is for you. It’s against the forces that want to keep you from the throne. The enemy’s goal isn’t to make your life miserable—it’s to cut you off from the source of your authority.

Here’s the hard truth: You’re not that important to hell. Satan isn’t sitting around plotting your downfall because he hates you. He’s attacking because you’re pressing into a dangerous direction—one that could dismantle his work. When you pray, when you step into your God-given authority, when you start living like a son or daughter of the King, you become a threat. And that’s when the warfare intensifies.

The Only Way to the Throne Is Prayer

If the battle is over the throne, how do we access it? The answer is simple, but it’s not easy: prayer.

Paul doesn’t just tell us to put on the armor of God in Ephesians 6—he tells us to pray at all times in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18). The armor is useless without prayer. You can have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith—but if you’re not praying, you’re not engaging the battle. Prayer is the weapon that connects you to the throne.

Think about it:

• Prayer is how we communicate with the throne. There’s no other way. Not good works, not religious activity, not even reading the Bible (though those things matter). If you want to access the government of heaven, you have to pray.
• Prayer is a legal petition. The word supplication in Ephesians 6:18 is a legal term—it means presenting a case before a judge. When you pray, you’re not just talking to God; you’re appealing to His authority, asking Him to intervene in the earthly realm.
• Prayer is warfare. Jesus taught us to pray, "Deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13). That’s not a passive request. It’s a declaration of war.

Here’s the problem: most of us treat prayer like an optional add-on to our faith. We pray when we feel like it, when we’re in trouble, or when we remember. But the enemy treats it like a life-or-death battle. He’ll do everything he can to keep you from praying—distractions, busyness, doubt, fatigue—because he knows that if you stop praying, you stop accessing the throne.

Enlightenment: Seeing the Throne Clearly

There’s a difference between being informed and being enlightened.

You can read the Bible, listen to sermons, and know all the right answers—but still not see the throne. Enlightenment isn’t just knowledge; it’s revelation. It’s the Holy Spirit opening your eyes to the reality of where you’re seated in Christ (Ephesians 2:6).

Paul prays for the Ephesians that God would give them "the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better" (Ephesians 1:17). Why? Because without enlightenment, prayer feels like a chore. With it, prayer becomes a lifeline.

Here’s what enlightenment does:

• It changes how you see yourself. You’re not just a sinner saved by grace—you’re a son or daughter seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). That changes everything.
• It changes how you see the battle. You stop fighting for victory and start fighting from victory. The throne isn’t a distant hope—it’s your current reality.
• It changes how you pray. You don’t pray like a beggar; you pray like a ruler. You don’t ask for scraps; you declare heaven’s will on earth.

Without enlightenment, prayer is just words. With it, prayer becomes warfare.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

So how do we live this out? Here are three concrete ways to start:

1. Make Prayer a Non-Negotiable

Not when you feel like it. Not when you have time. Every day. Start small—five minutes, ten minutes—but be consistent. The enemy will throw everything at you to keep you from this. Don’t let him.

2. Pray Like You’re Seated with Christ

Stop praying like someone who’s trying to earn God’s favor. Start praying like someone who’s already seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). That means praying with authority, with confidence, with the expectation that heaven hears you.

3. Fight Distractions Like the Warfare They Are

When your mind wanders during prayer, don’t just shrug it off. Recognize it for what it is: a spiritual attack. Push back. Refocus. Declare, "I will not be distracted from the throne."

The Choice Is Yours

Here’s the bottom line: You can’t live from the throne if you’re not living in prayer. And you can’t live in prayer if you don’t see the throne.

So today, you have a choice:

• Will you let distractions, busyness, and doubt keep you from the one thing that connects you to heaven’s government?
• Will you settle for being informed—or will you press in for enlightenment?
• Will you pray like a beggar—or like a ruler?

The battle is real. The throne is real. And the choice is yours.
